Data sources

The public data that KEYSTONE. harmonises

Every dataset and dashboard we publish is traceable to a primary public source. We do not resell raw data - we aggregate, clean, harmonise and contextualise official trade statistics that are otherwise scattered across dozens of national and multilateral systems. Our stone and minerals trade data comes from two authoritative public sources: UN Comtrade and Eurostat Comext.

UN Comtrade

UN Comtrade is the United Nations' multilateral trade database - the global reference for bilateral merchandise trade. It provides imports, exports and re-exports at HS code level for more than 170 reporting countries, on both annual and monthly frequencies. It is our source for the world-level trade dashboards and for every non-EU exporter we cover (China, Brazil, Türkiye, India, Egypt, Canada, Oman, the United States and others).

Eurostat Comext

Eurostat Comext is the European Commission's reference database for the external trade of the EU and its member states. It reports intra- and extra-EU flows at 8-digit Combined Nomenclature (CN) granularity - finer than the 6-digit HS level - which lets us separate, for example, rough blocks from sawn slabs. It is our source for every EU-member exporter we cover (Portugal, Italy, Spain, Greece, Germany, France, Belgium).

Availability and timeliness

KEYSTONE. publishes UN Comtrade and Eurostat Comext data as those institutions release it. Their availability and timeliness depend on each country reporting its trade to them — KEYSTONE. does not control, and is not responsible for, when or whether a country's figures are published. Reporting lags vary by country and can exceed six months, so the most recent periods may be incomplete or revised after publication.

Attribution

Every publication identifies its primary sources with full URL, date of consultation and dataset version. Open-access data may be reproduced and reused provided KEYSTONE. is cited as the secondary source. For details on how we process and harmonise this data, see our methodology.
